Happy Thanksgiving!
Do you have a Thanksgiving tradition? Besides, of course, whatever family recipes show up on your table from year to year.
I was intrigued by this new “tradition” from Seth Godin – it’s called The Thanksgiving Reader. He has gathered together inspirational poems, quotes, and stories to be read aloud during the Thanksgiving meal. Some of the pieces really spoke to me, others not as much. But I love the idea!
Seth’s hope is that millions of people, all across the world, will take part in this new tradition. One that focuses on family, and gratitude, and allows us to “look one another in the eye and share something magical.” To consciously put our attention on all that we have to be thankful for, and know that others are doing the same – reading the same words on the same day. And afterwards, maybe we won’t rush off to the stores so quickly on Black Friday. Or get so caught up in the waves of fear sweeping the world in light of recent terrorist events. Instead, perhaps we will cherish the time we have with family and friends, and take comfort in our common humanity.
I’m going to see if Suna’s aunt and uncle are up for reading a few of these this Thanksgiving. I invite you to join in!
With love,
Kim
